Parece como una postal de la bahía de Funchal con el mar y la montaña – uno de esos sitios que hace realmente justicia a su nombre. Conduciendo por las estrechas carreteras hasta llegar, lo primero que nota el visitante es la vegetación subtropical llena de ejemplares exóticos como el hibisco, la ceiba y las trepadoras en flor – un sitio inigualable para relajarse y gozar de la naturaleza. Otros puntos fuertes de este hotel del siglo XIX (el edificio data de 1844, aunque la mayoría de las habitaciones están en un anexo reciente), son el gusto refinado y el fuerte ambiente de Viejo Mundo que se respira por todas partes – como si hubiéramos entrado en una casa privada de la aristocracia. Hay una estupenda colección de obras de arte originales y antigüedades, así como detalles de tiempos pasados como la sala de billar, la biblioteca, el cuarto de juegos y las chimeneas – sitios ideales para tomarse una copa de madeira después de cenar a la carta en el excelente restaurante del Bela Vista. A los amantes del golf les encantará saber que hay dos buenos recorridos con green fees reducidos para los huéspedes del hotel. Y los que prefieran el mar pueden fletar el yate propiedad de la Quinta y ver esta preciosa isla desde el Atlántico.
