Here’s a conundrum - How can you be old and new at the same time?

Tip: Think about the Castello di Montagnano. Perhaps we’re being a bit esoteric here but the answer is quite simple. This lovely luxury castle goes way back to the 1^st century (AD 962 to be exact) and its contorted history includes being given to a count who supported Otto I of Saxony when he was crowned Emperor of Germany and King of Italy. History comes as standard here,  but the bit about being new is that it was painstakingly restored in 2009 from top to bottom. Thankfully, top notch designers were used to create this new “phoenix” and the end result is this most enchanting of places.

Rooms have retained their original castle atmosphere whilst all those mod cons are pretty much kept out of eye’s way. Still, they are all there without taking away anything from the beauty of the place – inside and out, for the views of the surrounding landscapes are also pretty special too. This is a castle, after all, and they usually get the best location for looking out towards the world.

Another interesting little detail and connection to history we might add, is that all the rooms and suites are named after families who have owned the Castle di Montignano since 1200. The renovated furnishings pieces all fit in seamlessly but still retain a medieval atmosphere with renovated pieces and materials used throughout. Suites  are sumptuous and large, over  50 square metres, views that lord it over everything, ceilings framed with trusses, vaults or fireplaces and SPA facilities en suite . The luxury apartments are also equipped with kitchenettes.

Suites and apartments have direct access by way of a lift to the “Dungeons” where the Acqua Degna spa islocated. A variety of wellness treatments are available here.
