This is the sort of thing Italy does so well – a retreat amongst olive groves and vines with never ending views of countryside that seems to have been made in Heaven. A truly aristocratic place to stay - in this case literally as the San Bonifacio, is owned by a real life count and countess, no less (hence the name of the place).
As they say, class is permanent and it shows all over this immaculate farmhouse. It is difficult to believe that this was once an abandoned and derelict shell of a building.
Thankfully, the Counts spent a lot of time money and effort building it up into what it is now, a combination of boutique style within a rustic setting mixed in with sophistication. The atmosphere is so relaxing and rooms so few – five in all – that you almost feel you own the place during a stay here. At the very least you are welcomed as great friends, part of an exclusive inner circle of fortunate people.
Guests spend their time between linen crisp bedroom suites, poolside or roaring fire depending on the season. All is possible here. Perfect tranquility or a vacation of activity including wine and cooking courses, yoga on the hilltop, horse riding and night treks or just simply discovering the medieval villages which crown each of the surrounding hilltops or the white beaches all along our coastline. History and nature marry here in conjugal bliss.
The 360 degree views are simply superb. The feeling is of peace and oneness with nature as eagles soar and swallows swoop overhead. Glass of wine in hand, aperitivo on the terrace, vineyard view dinners. Earth, wine and essential Tuscan foods combine to offer the exquisite experience at this unique hotel.

Whatever type of room all take in crisp white bed linens, leather club chairs, stripped back Florentine armadios and enormous white cow skins across the acres of terracotta floors. The Estate
Conti di San Bonifacio Estate has just 7 hectares of vines planted by the San Bonifacio family in 2004. The carefully managed vines consist of 5 varieties; Sangiovese, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Our philosophy is simple; Strive for absolute quality throughout every phase of wine making. This means meticulous vineyard management to grow the best fruit, rigorous fruit selection and delicate nurture through fermentation and maturation.
The beautiful Maremma, where our vineyard is situated, has changed dramatically over the last 30 years and exploded into one of Italy's most important wine regions. The Bolgheri region, home to the world renowned Super-Tuscan wines, Sassicaia and Ornellaia, is situated just north of our own vineyards, and has inspired winemakers all around to experiment with grape varieties untraditional to the area which have proved so successful when grown here.
There is a Mediterranean climate in the Maremma with hot summers (moderated by nightly sea breezes) long autumns, mild humid winters and rainy springs. It is warmer and more clement than in the heart of Tuscany, allowing the grapes to ripen much more easily than in some other regions.
