The pretty little village of Flecheiras is surrounded by a stunning natural setting combining white sand and the ocean. Somewhere along all this beauty you will find the Orixás Art Hotel, a rustic and yet rather sophisticated hotel that brings together sculptures, paintings and other works of art in and around its premises.

When we say the Orixás is located “somewhere along all this beauty” we actually mean the ocean front of the village, so yes, its fair to call it a seaside hotel. But it’s certainly more than that. It’s a seaside hotel with a sensual style and history all it’s own.

It was, after all, established in 1978 by Erich & Graça Steffen in order to study and preserve Amerindian/Brazilian culture. From this beginning grew two art galleries, a fine restaurant, a cultural space (Quiriri House of Culture) and, of course, a special place to stay by the sea.

This “Amerindian” legacy is reflected in the exotic style of decoration used throughout its 18 rooms, all of which have fantastic views of the ocean, of course.

Besides the suites and rooms, there is also the “Mataganza” area, which is ideal for groups or large families. Located between the sea and dunes, it offers privacy and what looks like thousands of square metres of gardens to get lost in.

Any other areas we should mention? Plenty, but we highlight the Odoya Spa, which offers soothing massages and well being programs and the Orixás restaurant serving up a mix of international and local cuisine all based on fresh and local produce.

In short, the Orixás Art Hotel (the very name gives a clue as to where priorities lie) is a bold project that has been pulled off with aplomb. We salute not only the idea behind it but also the way it has been executed. So just relax.
